University of Oulu Language Centre The Language Centre offers Finnish courses for foreign students, researchers and members of the university staff from abroad. The courses focus on the main language skills. Thus, for learners without any previous knowledge of Finnish there are Survival Finnish courses (1 local credit / 1,5 ECTS credits) and Beginners' courses in Finnish (2 local credits / 3 ECTS credits). For more advanced learners there are Intermediate Finnish course I (lower level, 2 local credits / 3 ECTS credits), Intermediate Finnish course II (higher level, 2 local credits / 3 ECTS credits) and Finnish for advanced students (1 2 local credits / 1,5 3 ECTS credits). The courses are free of charge for foreign students registered at the University of Oulu. Students from outside the university are charged a participation fee. Further information University
of Oulu Language Centre Department of Finnish, Saami and Logopedics The Department of Finnish, Saami and Logopedics offers instruction in Finnish as a second language (integrated with basic instruction) for exchange students and scholarship students with previous studies in Finnish. The language of instruction is Finnish. Different criteria of evaluation are applied to the study performance of those studying Finnish as a second language and the performance of native students. There is a possibility for both native and non-native Finnish students to take a minor subject course of 15 local credits (22,5 ECTS credits) in Finnish as a second and foreign language.
