University of Tampere

Language Centre & School of Modern Languages and Translation studies

The Language Centre offers a programme of Finnish as a Foreign Language (15 local credits / 30 ECTS credits) consisting of seven different courses. The courses can also be taken separately without completing the whole programme. In addition, some supplementary courses are arranged annually, and the Language Centre offers also short courses in Survival Finnish every semester.

The programme Finnish as a B-language (10–15 local credits / 20–30 ECTS credits), arranged by the School of Modern Languages and Translation Studies, is especially tailored for students who are interested in translating and interpreting. The objective is to strengthen students’ knowledge of both Finnish language and culture and to develop their skills in oral and written Finnish so that they can use Finnish professionally as the translator’s and interpreter’s B-language. The applicants should have good prior knowledge of Finnish. The courses of the programme can be taken separately without completing the whole programme.
